Workers' Compensation Coverage
Workers’ Compensation insurance is provided and administered by Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Corporation, commonly referred to as LWCC. Workers’ Compensation is a benefit provided to employees who are injured on the job and is mandatory in the State of Louisiana.
The most important thing we can do for our employees is to provide safety training and to help maintain a safe working environment to prevent on-the-job injuries. To assist our locations in this effort, LWCC provides professional loss control and safety resources to all covered locations. Some examples are:
- Safety Training Videos (available for checkout)
- Morning Coffee Break (monthly webinars covering a specific safety topic)
- Computer-Based Training (professional safety training modules that can be completed at your own pace)
In some cases, an employee may report a job-related injury but does not wish to seek medical attention. What should the employer do? LWCC has established an “RPO” program for these incidents. “RPO” stands for Reporting Purposes Only. LWCC should still be notified of the injury using the same contact number: 1-800-395-0303. You will simply put LWCC on notice that the injury is an “RPO."
The Diocese is pleased to be partnered with Our Lady of Lourdes through a program called Wellness Works to enhance our Workers’ Compensation program. Wellness Works is available to provide the following assistance to employees and employers:
- Coordinating doctor’s appointments and referrals
- Scheduling approved physical therapy
- Obtaining medical documentation and providing copies to the employer
- Job analysis for modified duty or return to work status
Wellness Works is a value-added program and therefore is available at no cost to the employee or employer. To utilize Wellness Works, please call 1-888-977-3319. Wellness Works may be utilized on any current or new workers’ compensation claim.
Second Injury Fund
The State of Louisiana currently maintains a “Second Injury Fund” which was designed to offset the costs to employers hiring someone who had a past injury or medical condition. The State charges a fee to all workers’ compensation insurance companies doing business in Louisiana; therefore, these fees are passed along as part of the premium paid each year. Funds from the State of Louisiana Second Injury Fund are used to reimburse medical costs associated with a past injury if the employer had “knowledge” of the past injury or medical condition prior to an on-the-job injury. In order to have “knowledge,” the employer must have a second injury fund medical questionnaire on file. LWCC recommends a “SIFMQ” second injury fund medical questionnaire be completed by all employees once each year.
