Safety and Security Best Practices
Parishes are the home of the Christian community; they are the heart of our Church. Parish communities and Catholic schools are places where God's people meet Jesus in word and sacrament and come in touch with the source of the Church's life, where the Gospel is proclaimed and celebrated, and where children and adults learn the tenets of their faith and how to put faith into action.
Parish and school communities are not, however, immune to the dangers of the society in which we live. For this reason, it is important that we be prepared. It is our responsibility to provide a safe environment for children and adults alike, and this includes taking measures to secure our facilities and review crisis management plans should the need arise. To this end, the Office of Risk Management is working in consultation with local first responders to develop safety and security best practices specifically for school and parish environments. In the coming weeks, information will be distributed directly to pastors and principals. It is our hope that these best practices will aid our parishes and schools in strengthening existing crisis management plans.
Please know that the Office of Risk Management is here to assist any parish or school with their security concerns on a one-on-one basis. If you need assistance or would like to schedule an appointment, please call 337-735-9449.
