Workers' Compensation Claims
When employees are injured on the job, it is important to notify LWCC as soon as possible. The Diocesan Risk Management Office recommends all work-related injuries be reported to LWCC within twenty-four (24) hours of the incident.
What if an employee does not wish to seek medical attention?
In some cases, an employee may report a job-related injury but does not wish to seek medical attention. What should the employer do? LWCC has established an “RPO” program for these incidents. “RPO” stands for Reporting Purposes Only. LWCC should still be notified of the injury using the same contact number (1-800-395-0303) and you will simply put LWCC on notice that the injury is an “RPO."
If an employee is injured, take the following steps:
- See that medical assistance is provided immediately.
- Obtain details of the accident.
- Identify any witnesses.
- Obtain photographs of the accident site, if possible.
- Identify any third-party involvement, i.e., equipment malfunction or damages caused by an outside entity.
